I visited Sun Nong Dan for the first time with a friend who lives nearby, and now I want to move here just for this place. The food was amazing, and the service provided by Mike & Hana was top-notch. I rarely had to ask for refills on sides and drinks because they were so attentive. Excellent service made my friends and I feel really taken care of.
The food was incredible. We ordered a medium-sized Galbi Jjim, and it was plenty for three hungry guys. The spice level was 4, which gave it a nice kick without being too overwhelming.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience and will definitely be back soon. This place is perfect for big groups, so I'll post another review on that experience later. Thanks again, Mike & Hana. Keep up the great work!!!

This place is open 24/7, perfect for a late-night meal when most good restaurants are closed. My friend and I visited during the day for a weekday lunch to try their famous galbi jjim. We ordered the medium koh galbi jjim, which includes oxtail, braised beef short rib, and back rib. We added cheese and rice cakes, which cost an extra $8 and $6 respectively. They torch the cheese in front of you, creating a cool visual effect. You can choose between white or brown (purple) rice at no extra charge; we opted for the purple rice for a more authentic experience.
The banchan selection is a bit limited, mostly kimchi variants, lettuce, radish, and green onions, but of great quality. The galbi jjim was excellent. The beef was super tender, and the oxtail mostly fell off the bone. The sauce was a bit spicy at level 2 medium spice. The rice cakes and cheese added extra texture, making the dish even more filling. The potatoes were okay. The medium portion was more than enough for the two of us; we each took home half for another meal. The medium size claims to feed 2-3 people, but it can easily feed 4, especially with the added cheese and rice cakes.
Service was okay. There were some mishaps, like receiving the wrong rice, which they remedied and apologized for. It can be a bit challenging to flag down a server. Despite these issues and multiple locations, it’s definitely a worthwhile visit and a must-try in LA.

Medium Galbi Jjim Review:
- Medium size serves 3-4 people; I went with my parents, and the 3 of us had leftovers.
- Cheese isn't included; it's $8 to add it.
- Supposed to come with Braised Beef Short Rib & Back Rib, but we only got a couple of pieces of bone-in beef and some sliced beef.
- I was confused why it came with sliced beef... that doesn't seem traditional.
- Not even sure if it was sliced beef short rib; it seemed like beef brisket.
- Other than that, it was super flavorful, and I loved the taste and combination of everything!
- Both the braised beef short rib & sliced beef were well-marinated and very soft & tender.
- Also comes with potatoes, carrots, and rice cake.
- The potatoes & carrots were super soft, which I loved since I prefer them more mushy than crunchy. They soaked in the sauce flavor really well. The potatoes were probably my favorite part of this entrée!
- The rice cake was some of the softest and chewiest I've ever had, but unfortunately, it didn't soak in the flavor of the sauce well, so it tasted bland, and I couldn't eat much of it :(
- We got it mild, but next time I'll opt for the medium or medium spicy because the mild wasn't spicy to me.
Additional Notes:
- Parking is extremely tough around here; the small parking lot in front of the restaurant has valet parking for $4.
- Very small restaurant with limited seating, so wait times can get pretty long.
- We went on a Saturday lunch around 1 PM, and it was a ~20-30 minute wait to get seated and about another 20 minutes to get the food after seating.
- Had the option of purple rice, which I loved!
- The fire that melted the cheese was so cool!

Get ready for a culinary adventure because Sun Nong Dan is a true gem! Located in Koreatown, this Korean restaurant exceeds all expectations with its outstanding cuisine, inviting ambiance, and top-notch service.
First, the food - wow, where do I start? The tender beef ribs are slow-cooked to perfection in a savory, slightly sweet sauce. It was amazing to watch them light up the dish right before my eyes.
But it's not just the main dishes that stand out at Sun Nong Dan - the banchan (side dishes) are equally remarkable. From the tangy kimchi to the refreshing bean sprouts, each one is a delightful addition, highlighting the restaurant's commitment to quality and authenticity.
The atmosphere at Sun Nong Dan is warm and welcoming, with cozy seating and a lively vibe that makes you feel right at home. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always ready with a smile and happy to offer recommendations or answer any questions you may have.
Whether you're a seasoned Korean food lover or new to the cuisine, Sun Nong Dan is a must-visit. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. You'll likely find yourself planning your next visit before you even leave. Five stars all the way!

I've been to this restaurant three times and I love it—the food is amazing. Highly recommend!
Went with a group of four on Saturday night. They were very busy, but we only waited 10 minutes. They took our order outside to speed things up. We ordered the #24 Galbi Jjim + Cheese (Large). We were seated and the food came out 20 minutes later. As always, it was DELICIOUS!! We had plenty of leftovers—the large could easily feed six people. We should have ordered a medium.
Oddly, one of my friends said she could taste gas from the blowtorch and couldn't eat the cheese because it was overpowering. Another friend noticed it slightly, but I couldn't taste it at all. So, a heads-up to anyone with sensitive taste buds!
I want to give it 5 stars, but it was very difficult to get the wait staff's attention. No one checked on us during the meal, and it took a long time to get more water and banchan.
Parking: Valet only parking lot.

My friends have been raving about this place, so I decided to give it a try! We ordered the galbi jjim with cheese (medium). It was on the pricier side, but the portion was huge, enough for the 5 of us to share. We also got the number 1 beef soup.
We went on a Saturday afternoon, and it was busy inside, but we were able to order and get our food pretty quickly. We got lucky as the line started forming outside when we arrived, so expect to wait outside if you come on weekend late afternoons or nights.
There's plenty of seating inside for big groups or if you're just coming with a friend. Overall, it was a great experience, and I already can't wait to go back and introduce this place to others!

The classic must-order at Sun Nong Dan is their Galbi Jjim. This time we tried the Koh Galbi Jjim, which includes oxtail along with the regular cuts.
We ordered the medium size, and it was enough for three people. You can choose between purple or white rice. They also offer a cheese option where they torch it at your table for a fun experience, but we skipped the cheese this time.
For the sauce, you can pick from five spiciness levels. We went with level 2, which was mildly spicy and still sweet. Besides the three cuts of meat, the dish includes potatoes, carrots, onions, and rice cakes. Overall, it's a perfect combination we can't get enough of!

Sun Nong Dan is the spot for Korean comfort food! Located in a bustling plaza with many other eateries, parking can be hectic, so be prepared. We arrived around 7:30 pm for dinner and were seated immediately.
The menu has so many options, but we went with the Teuk Galbi Tang and Galbi Jjim with cheese, recommended by our server Jusang. The cheese, an $8 add-on, complemented the dish perfectly, making for the perfect bite. The meat was incredibly tender, falling off the bone, and the broth from the Teuk Galbi Tang was hearty and rich. The portions were so generous we could barely finish!
Overall, this spot was so satisfying and worth trying. The staff was welcoming and professional, with a special shoutout to Jusang for being attentive all night. This is a great place to come with friends or family to share delicious Korean comfort food! Stop by here for a meal, and you won't be disappointed!

I'm not going to lie, I've only ever ordered one thing the many times I've been here: the galbi jjim. I'm sure they have other delicious items on the menu, but the galbi jjim is the main and only reason I visit. It's so iconic and a must-try.
The meat is perfectly braised and incredibly tender. It's spicy, and the potatoes and rice cakes are soft and chewy. The only downside is that adding cheese is ridiculously pricey. During my last visit, the melted cheese add-on was $8!
Anyway, I highly recommend this place. The parking is awful, with small spaces and careless drivers, so just be aware of that.

Sun Nong Dan offers delicious short ribs, an exciting fire show, and 24/7 service. My group of four enjoyed the Large Galbi Jjim, which was perfect for us. The place is usually crowded, so we were fortunate to visit during lunch on a rainy day.
My first experience with this dish was at Sun Nong Dan, and I've visited many locations since. After long vacations and drives, it always satisfies. This San Gabriel location was especially impressive, or perhaps it just gets better every time!
The Galbi Jjim specialty includes braised beef short ribs, back ribs, oxtail, rice cakes, peppers, potatoes, and carrots, all served in a large stone cauldron with cheese on top. A staff member uses a blowtorch for a fun fire show. The unique soy-based sauce with onions, garlic, and chilies adds an extra kick. It's warm, hearty, and best enjoyed with good company and a big appetite. I can't praise Galbi Jjim enough - I love it!
Sun Nong Dan is a staple for cozy, delicious Korean food. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a hearty meal at any time of day or night.
Susan C.:
Sun Nong Dan is famed for its giant bubbling stone pots of braised beef short ribs. The interior is spacious and bustling with people. Located in a busy plaza, parking can be a challenge.
We ordered the Koh Galbi Jjim, which included braised beef short ribs, back rib, and oxtail, with added cheese and rice cake. Watching the dish come out and seeing the cheese melt under the torch was always a spectacle. The meat was super tender, and the potatoes, carrots, and onions were deliciously soft and flavorful. Though a bit pricey, we had more than enough for five people and enjoyed leftovers the next day, which tasted even better as the flavors had further marinated the meats and veggies.
We also had the Mulmandu, or steamed dumplings, as an appetizer while waiting for the Galbi Jjim. They were the perfect starter with good flavor.
Service was decent; a waiter refilled our radish side dish without us asking and stacked it to the top, which was a nice touch.
Overall, a good experience and quite tasty! A SoCal staple.
Amanda T.:
Really great Korean restaurant for their beef soup! I came here with a friend and we waited about 10 minutes to be seated, which was pretty quick.
The Galbi Tang was fantastic (5/5)! It was incredibly flavorful and comforting. The beef was tender and delicious. The Sun Nong Dan Guk Bap (4/5) was good too, but I preferred the Galbi Tang. It wasn't too spicy but still very flavorful.
The ambiance of the restaurant was relaxed, similar to other Korean eateries. There's also a parking lot, so finding a spot isn't too hard.
